Geography of the Panchayat
Pampady is an important Grama Panchayat in Pampady Block of Kottayam District. The region is situated between the low-lying areas of western Kerala and the eastern hill ranges of the Western Ghats.
The major geographical features of Pampady Grama Panchayat are given below:
1. Boundaries
- North: Kooroppada and Vijayapuram Grama Panchayats
- South: Nedumkunnam, Kangazha and Karukachal Grama Panchayats
- East: Kooroppada and Vazhoor Grama Panchayats
- West: Puthuppally, Manarcad and Meenadom Grama Panchayats
2. Area and Topography
Area: The total area of the Panchayat is approximately 31.08 square kilometres (31.08 km²).
Topography: Located in the central part of Kottayam District, Pampady generally falls within the Midland geographical region. The terrain consists of hills, slopes and plains. Pampady is situated at an elevation of approximately 81 metres above sea level.
Major Hill: The historically significant Vennimala is located along the western boundary of Pampady. Vennimala was one of the capitals of the erstwhile Thekkumkoor Kingdom.
3. Location and Transportation
National Highway 183 (NH 183), which connects Kottayam and Kumily, passes through the heart of Pampady.
Pampady is located approximately 16 kilometres east of Kottayam town.
Due to these geographical features, Pampady has a landscape that is highly suitable for agriculture, particularly for cash crops such as rubber and pepper.
